Marv Harshman Classic
A Northwest legend, Marv Harshman was a Hall of Fame coach who led teams in the state of Washington for 40 years. He started as a multi-sport coach at Pacific Lutheran University before moving on to Washington State and the University of Washington, where he found fame and success. Over the span of his career, Harshman won 637 games and was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985. While at Washington, he won the second-most games of any basketball coach in school history. It was at UW where Harshman coached current Husky coach Lorenzo Romar, NBA standout Detlef Schrempf and more than a dozen other NBA draftees. During this special era of West Coast basketball, UCLA’s John Wooden, California’s Pete Newall, Oregon State’s Ralph Miller and Slats Gill were among some of the legendary coaches he competed against. Marv Harshman will forever be remembered as great coach and even greater man. He spent his life investing in this region and developing young men while entertaining with both their high-caliber teams and high-character personalities.
